Classical Chinese Medical Perspective

In Classical Chinese medicine, illness is perceived as the body being unable to adapt to challenges, which causes a disruption in overall equilibrium, allowing pathogens to take hold. Any challenge that the body cannot handle, such as emotional trauma, can lead to illness.

Illness is considered an ongoing process of disharmonious patterns of relationships. The concept of qi, or vital force, serves as a medium connecting all events, transcending time and space. Qi is not just a physical force, but a profound link that connects all aspects of our being. Emotions, or “qing,” are viewed as movements of qi. Repressing emotions can disrupt emotional expression and lead to a vicious cycle. These disruptions in the flow of qi are considered the root cause of illness.

Classical Chinese medicine emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body, spirit (Shen), and mind. Disturbances in the spirit (shen) can manifest as pathologies in the body and mind, highlighting the holistic approach to health.

The best way to treat emotional trauma is through the heart.

In Suwen 19, the Yellow Emperor talks about how qi generates a hundred diseases and how different emotional states affect qi differently. Anger rises the qi, joy relaxes the qi, sadness dissipates the qi, fear moves it down, cold congeals the qi, heat makes it flow, fright disorders the qi, and exhaustion wastes the qi.

Health

In Classical Chinese medicine, health is the ability of our body to respond to various challenges while maintaining balance and integrity effectively. When the skin is tight, blood vessels allow unrestricted movement, sinews are firm, bones are strong, the heart, mind, and will are in balance, the life forces flow, and sickness has no place to reside.

Healing
Our body is an energy field, and healing is multidimensional. A space is created so that other dimensions, co-existing with the physical realm, are invited to become part of the multidimensional healing session. Diseases are believed to come from the immaterial realm. For example, emotional trauma emerging from the organ systems inside can manifest as structural pathology in the physical body.
Trauma

It’s natural to yearn for compassion and healing to overcome the deep-seated traumas from family wounds, trans-generational trauma, and challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. These traumas can affect our well-being, impacting us on multiple levels. Exploring the metaphysical realm can open up new levels of self-awareness, allowing us to form a deeper connection with our past lives and personal history and begin the psychological healing process. The Wang Feng Yi system in Chinese medicine offers a unique approach to healing trauma, focusing on understanding the root causes of disease using human emotions and relationships as a framework. By addressing our emotions, we create a space for self-reflection and growth, aligning with the divine while navigating the complexities of human experience.

WANG FENG YI

Nourishing life

Life is sustained by the accumulation of vital energy known as qi, while death is the dispersal of this energy. At birth, we receive a form of qi which we maintain throughout our lives by absorbing additional qi from the air, food, and other people. The smooth, harmonious, and active flow of qi within the body is known as zheng qi, which is the body’s overall ability to maintain vitality and protect itself from pathogen invasion. There is a constant struggle between Zheng Qi and Xie Qi. A strong zheng qi leads to a healthy response, even in the presence of potent pathogens. A slightly weak zheng qi may result in mild illness when faced with a strong pathogen, while a weak zheng qi can lead to severe illness or rapid disease progression in the presence of a strong pathogen. In Classical  Chinese medicine, life is nurtured when the body, mind, and spirit are in harmony, allowing for free-flowing qi and creating a balanced state, resulting in a radiant outward appearance as we interact with nature—a state often described as great peace (Taiping). Qigong and Tai Chi are practices that can be used to cultivate qi and maintain health.

Group healing

As humans, we have a natural drive to form social connections in order to thrive. This need for connection begins in early infancy as we seek to bond with our caregivers and others around us. Given the important role of social interactions in our lives, it’s not surprising that many mental health disorders involve disruptions in normal social behavior. In this context, traditional healing ceremonies and rituals provide valuable emotional support for individuals and communities, especially within the context of group healing sessions. We are naturally inclined to seek meaningful relationships where we feel truly understood, accepted, and loved at our core. When these relationships are disrupted, a sense of disconnection and emptiness can arise. People may try to fill this void by turning to addictions such as social media, alcohol, or other forms of comfort.

In ancient China, shamanic rituals were performed in communal centers to release communal trauma. Rituals or ceremonies create a momentous shift in energetic direction which is helpful in releasing stuck emotional traumas.
